Queensland Deputy Premier Jeff Seeney has revealed that 12 casino developers have paid $100,000 to lodge their formal interest in developing new casinos in the state with names including Echo Entertainment, Crown and Sky City Entertainment.

These three companies will go head to head, along with another three developers, including Chow Tai Fook Enterprises, Lend Lease and China’s Greenland, for the right to build at the Queens Wharf development in Brisbane.

A further six consortiums want to develop a casino licence in regional Queensland. The six consortiums keen to bid for a casino licence in regional Queensland these include the Aquis $4.2bn development at Yorkeys Knob, north of Cairns, being presented by Hong Kong businessman Tony Fung, the

China-Australia Entrepreneurs Consortium who wants to build a casino at Airlie Beach, Fullshare International who has suggested a casino, south of Proserpine, and GKI Resort who wants to develop at Great Keppel Island.

Two other consortiums have built bids around the Gold Coast; Eastern Success Group at Nerang, and ASF consortium at Broadwater.

Mr Seeney said: “I look forward to viewing fully-fledged proposals from these groups by the end of the year.

The Queensland government is committed to establishing developments that will be draw cards for both international and domestic visitors and provide employment for thousands of Queenslanders. This process will also deliver a much-needed boost to the state’s construction industry.”

The applicants will be whittled down into a short-list by the middle of the year before being asked to provide more detailed

proposals towards the end of the year. The final stage of the tender is expected to be completed early in 2015.
